Taught by Susana Montero & Lady Laura Goodwin-Freeman, students can also sit the related ISTD examination to gain a recognised salsa qualification from such a revered dance body.
Preparation for the New Salsa ISTD Examination
The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) is one of the world’s leading dance examinations board. From Ballet to Ballroom, they cover the full spectrum of genres and for more than 100 years they have provided training for dance teachers and examiners, enabling them to enter their students for examinations, develop new techniques and spread the joy of dance.
At the LDA we will be preparing you for the New Salsa examination designed and developed by Susana Montero for the ISTD.
This exam is only for those who are looking to have a teaching qualification in Salsa.
You DO NOT have to take this exam as part of any of our programs. We will train you to become a Salsa teacher or to improve your skills as a teacher for those of you who are already teaching, regardless of taking the exam or not.
The ISTD is currently offering 2 types of Salsa examinations:
1. Salsa Examination for Student Teachers: This will enable participants to become a qualified Salsa Teacher’s assistant. It’s an introduction to the examination system and suitable for those advance dancers who have limited or no actual teaching experience.
2. Salsa Examination for Associate Teachers: This qualification will enable participants to obtain a qualification as a Professional Salsa Teacher. This LDA programme is suitable for those experienced Salsa teachers who don’t need an extensive training programme however are interested in the exam process itself and gaining the ISTD qualification.
If you think you are ready for the Student Teacher or Associate Teacher Examination, you will need to check with the course leader first before booking onto either course. At the LDA we will cover all the necessary material needed to pass the ISTD Salsa exams.
The actual ISTD Examination fee and supporting materials, MUST be purchased direct from the ISTD and NOT from the Lain Dance Academy. The fees are as follows;
- Examination fee for the Student Teachers examination: £99 per exam taken.
- Examination fee for the AssociateTeachers examination: £120 per exam taken
- Books:
1 book – £12
2 books – £22 (Save £2)
4 books – £40 (Save £8)
Under certain ‘special’ circumstances, the LDA can order the books for you so that you don’t have to go personally to the ISTD HQ to get them.
There are 4 books for purchase:
- Study book
- L.A. Syllabus chart book
- N.Y. Syllabus chart book
- Cuban Syllabus chart book
You DO NOT need to purchase all of the books unless you are taking exams in all of the 3 different Salsa styles.
If you are taking the exam(s) in only one of the salsa styles mentioned above, then you will only need to buy the Study book plus the Salsa style book that links to your choice of salsa exam.
